Ladies in my view have manners.

Eliza the Cockney flower girl poses as a membe...Image via Wikipedia

I happened to catch the British TV program Ladette to lady, last night and after watching for just a few minutes, I came to the conclusion that these were no ladies who were trying to drum into the ladettes their posh way of life.
What they don't seem to realise is that being rich and posh does not make them ladies, especially the ones who marry into the aristocracy with their sole aim being, to live a life of luxury without doing too much for it.
The so called "ladies" who turned up at the school were anything but my idea of ladies, with one of them, aged about fifty having her skirt up to her hips as she sat down and the others looking down their noses at the poor girls they were supposed to be showing the example to.
None of these actions are lady like, only ignorant gestures by gold-diggers who think that being wealthy makes them better people. They are the gentry who come from a country life that keeps to its own circles, with hunting and other blood sports to keep them amused, which is anything but lady and gentleman like, puting up a front when they are forced to mingle with the ordinary people, to hide the disgusting reality of their lives.
The teachers fall into the same category as they strut about, pompous, head aloof as they try and degrade the pupils at every cut and turn, not allowing them to speak especially, when they have a valid point.
It was the teachers who looked ridiculous as they shouted down the girls for stupid things that have nothing to do with being a lady, or survival in the real world.
They are all sadly disillusioned if they think that behaving like that is the qualities ladies are made of, but on the other hand, in the make-believe world that they live in, and the way they degrade theirselves to land a rich husband, (in most cases) then it is little wonder that they strive to become something they are not, for the rest of their lives, and have to put up with an excuse for a man as a husband, who could not survive in our world if you took away their inherited fortunes.
Ladies, in my view have manners, which that lot did not, including the teachers, nor did they have any of the other qualities that make a proper lady, so any of the ladettes who leave there thinking that they have met, and been trained by ladies have been badly misled.
In my opinion it is the so called ladies that need the lessons on how to live and survive in the real world, then THEY might have some respect for the true ladies and gents in this world, and realise that because they have money and talk in a posh accent doesn't make them any better than the rest of us.
The ladettes were better individual people when they began the posh school, and are very much worse off, if they take any heed of the nonsense that was rammed down their throats in this stupid TV program.
AH well thats the standard of TV programs now, trying to grab our attention by degrading and exposing people, and this is no exception with everyone concerned being degraded and the so called ladies being seen for who they really are. A complete waste of space.

TV quiz's getting on our wicks.

Braun HF 1, Germany, 1959Image via Wikipedia

These easy answered competitions on TV are getting on most peoples wick as everyone knows the answer making it a lottery rather than a quiz, also between the adverts and the ranting on about the rules and regulations plus the actual question of the said quiz makes their programs run two to three minutes late. If they come in the middle of a program, by the time they finally get back to it the viewer has forgotten what they were watching or turned over to another channel. This does the station no good as they lose vauble viewers and although the quiz's might supplement their income, the loss of any viewers should concern them so why do they not just have the adverts and stupid quiz's (lotteries)between programs and anyone who is interested can participate and those that do not can watch their programs in peace, without interruption. I am aware that there are broadcasting guidelines but surely they can be negotiated to suit everyone.

My life might depend on their abilities

Cooks at work.Image via Wikipedia

I suppose its a matter of taste but I have no time or desire to watch egotistical people getting paid to indulge in their own importance. Alan Sugar in the apprentice is a millionaire so money does not come into his reasoning to appear in this program, nor does it have any bearing on who he hires as he can hire and fire at will without the T.V. cameras there to record it. The only reasoning behind it is to gain more self importance and to boost his over stretched ego further.
Other programs like hells kitchen or any other cooking program that sets out to demean the trainee chefs or the so called celebrities that appear in them for whatever reason are just as bad as they too are only a means to boost over inflated egos.
To be renown for swearing instead of the job you are supposed to be doing I.E. cooking takes away any respect the viewer or the trainee has for the teacher and anything said in anger be it put on for the cameras or not will never penetrate the brain as all that goes through the head of the recipient is how stupid the big mouth in front of them must appear to the viewer.
Being in a position to train people I found that explaining the reason for doing the task I was asking them to do in a civilized manner while giving some encouragement created better results and gained me the respect from everyone that I passed my capabilities on to.
Lives were at stake had I tried to instill with fear the importance of each task as carrying out the smallest of jobs at the sea could mean a matter of life or death.
O.K. the tasks in a kitchen or in an office may not be life threatening but the general idea of trying to teach a person in the quickest and most efficient way is to gain their respect by teaching them in a way that what you are saying to them sticks in their brain and not the image of some over excited fool shouting and swearing some jumbled up words to boost his ego.
I am proud to say that from deckhand to skipper plenty men and boys were trained by me and everyone of them still respects me simply because they knew they could trust me and rely on me through thick and thin, in all weathers as I could in them. I knew when I was training them that someday MY life might depend on their abilities so therefore the better they became the safer I became.
That sort of camaraderie obviously does not exist in some walks of life as the consequences might not be so serious but a little respect goes a long way and a lot farther than an over inflated ego.

Dancing on ice.

As much as I love Coleen I think she has gone far enough if only to be fair to the other contestants. The last two weeks the skaters voted off were far superior to Coleen and all the improving they have done in comparison to Coleen must have left them feeling a bit miffed. It has come to the stage where the judges and Torvill and Dean are hinting that they think so too, as their comments and facial expressions show their disappointment when the better skaters are leaving.
Although much improved this week she is still weeks behind the rest and Coleen herself must be feeling guilty when the results are called and she has to stand beside better skaters who by now must be getting worried that their skills and progress are going to be wasted by a popularity vote. I don't think it will go that far but as long as Coleen is still there the shades of John Sergeant will hang over this program.

I.T.V. Struggling

The recent news about I.T.V. having to make drastic cut backs came as quite a surprise owing to the fact that more air time is given to commercials than ever before.
If you watch good morning T.V. and are able to stay on the channel for any length of time you realise just how many adverts are shown in comparison to the actual news or topical subjects they deal with. The presenters on these news programs have an easy time compared to the B.B.C. as they have plenty long breaks between items giving them more time for preparation or anything else they need to do, whereas the B.B.C. presenters are on continuously from early morning till after nine. It would be interesting to compare the wage packets to find out pound for pound,or time on air who is really worth their salt and perhaps savings could be made in that department.
It used to be the commercials were the main source of income for I.T.V. but with all the phone-in competitions and reality programs with their (suspect) phone-in voting systems they must have increased their income by a tremendous margin, so why are they struggling financially? Could it be the public are not as gullible as they were when these phone-ins started and have realised how big a rip off they really are, or is it indeed just a sign of the times?

C.C.T.V.

Giraffe - Game Reserve - South AfricaImage by adam79 via Flickr

On watching loose women today I was disappointed in Carol on her opinion on C.C.T.V.
as she is very much against them. I personally think they do more good than bad as tracking victims of abduction and murder have proved very useful in solving crimes.
I wonder how Carol or any other like minded person would feel if someone they treasured was rescued thanks to this system. Other Countries like South Africa have really benefited from them and proved that in the right hands and with the right sentences handed out they work.

Dancing on ice

I should have added to my summary on Sunday that it was good to see the producers of dancing on ice had finally seen the light and allowed Todd to be taken off the program. Maybe they read my blog too and realised THEY were skating on thin ice and that the majority of public is not fooled easily by con merchants or, maybe the health and safety intervened. ha ha!

competition farce, dancing on ice

If the phone votes did account for fifty percent of the competitors scores, there is still no way mathematically the scores would add up to Todd staying in as the judges rightly so give him marks so low that his survival would be impossible.
It is all very well conning a gullible public to get financial gain but it is not fair on the hard working contestants who go all out to improve successfully and have to watch as the controllers put him through for entertainment value.
What would they do if the rest of the competitors decided to stop training and just go out and act the fool on a Sunday night thinking if he gets through that way whats the use of us trying too hard.

THERE WOULD BE NO SHOW!

Entertainment or not it is time the controllers started being fair to everybody involved as thanks to great skating skills acquired by the promising members of dancing on ice team they, make the show worthwhile watching when we can see them improve each week and marvel at their newly found skills, something that Todd no matter how hard he tries will never have.

repeats within repeats

I am going back to T.V. for today's moan and it is about the repeats within repeats on the box.
Programs like COME DINE WITH ME, NAUGHTY OUT-TAKES, YOU'VE BEEN FRAMED
spring to mind (There are more but these three are enough to be going on with). At the beginning of some programs they show you what is to come during the broadcast, and the type of shows and content that they consist of means that it really spoils the rest of the show. In the COME DINE WITH ME program you have a preview at the beginning then as the adverts approach we get a preview of the second half THEN after the dreaded adverts we get told what happened in the first half and by the time the program has finished we have had about ten minutes of unpreviewed viewing. Worse still is if you happen to watch a repeat of the program that consists of five episodes one after the other. Then you get a preview of the content of the first program continuing with whats to come in the second half then it ends with what is to happen in the next program and when that comes on five minuets after the adverts we firstly get told what happened last time then what is going to happen this time till finally with a short clip of new footage we get the whats to come in part two. This repertoire is continued throughout the five programs and leaves the viewer bored to tears. The whole five half hour episodes could be broadcast in a one hour program and be far more interesting for the viewer. This is cheap broadcasting with no thought for the viewer, but continual occurrences will only lead to less viewers or them recording and fast forwarding the parts that are constantly repeated. More often than not it distracts us so we turn over or scan the channels and come up with something that will hold our attention. We pay our license fee and put up with the ever expanding advert time so we deserve better than this.

T.V. adverts

We know that commercial channels have to generate money and the best way to do this is through adverts and recently their phone-in competitions.
The adverts during, programs used to last about two or two and a half minutes but now they last four to five minutes which by the time the program restarts I have almost forgotten what I was watching. O.K. so I am getting older but my mind is still sound; it is not just that, the atmosphere and tension build up of some programs lose all the flow when suddenly the break interrupts.
Another example of this distraction is when watching formula one racing and although it is not as exciting as it used to be it still has it's moments and as each break comes along you lose two laps per break which can amount to ten to twelve laps missed. Between that and the loss of
momentum that had build up within the avid viewers leads to very annoying interruptions.
Surely the companies could have more consideration for the viewing public and arrange their adverts to be shown at periods suitable to the viewers.
In the case of formula one I am delighted that the B.B.C. has won the contract back and we will get an uninterrupted coverage of the race. There are other programs I avoid on the commercial stations simply because of adverts and it is probable that a lot of other viewers are lost for this same reason. I am aware that nothing will be done about this but at least I have got it off my chest and that is what this blog is all about.

phone-in farce

While it is still fresh in my mind and still annoying me I will take this opportunity to vent my anger at the farce of T.V. reality program phone-ins. Last night dancing on ice hit our screens again only to prove how ridiculously easy it is to con viewers into thinking their votes count.
A contestant (Todd) who could hardly STAND on the ice let alone skate was put into the next round. His score from the judges was so low that even if all the phone votes were for him he still would not have progressed, but the gullible public still have not learned their lesson from the last farce on strictly come dancing that their votes only serve to fill the coffers of the T.V. stations and have nothing to do with who goes on to the next round. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the programs and admire the efforts and skills SOME of the contestants pick up but I like things to be fair. The programs would still be entertaining without the viewers votes, letting the judges votes decide who goes through. The farcical voting system they have adopted only gives the planners the cop out they need to run the show the way they want and to keep in the contestants they think will attract the most viewers and, of course get the benefit of all the money rolling in from the suckers who think their votes count. It's a pity so many people fall for their tricks, including, the other easy competitions they run with questions everybody knows the answer to also, to fill their coffers. There are winners YES but the questions are made easy to get the maximum amount of phone calls making the prizes the give out a very small percentage of what they rake in. If the phone companys put an end to the way money can be made this way you would soon see the phone-ins stop, but of course it suits the phone companies too as they are also cashing in. As long as there are gullible people out there the T.V.companies are laughing up their sleeves and rubbing their hands together in anticipation of easy money.

news readers

Why do news readers always say AN historic when AN should only be used before a vowel.
Vowels are A. E. I. O. U. not H although most people say an hour but only because hour sounds like it begins with a vowel which does not make it right as it should be a hour. When you read the same lines in a newspaper it does not have AN in front of historic so why do it when speaking?
I have started this blog to vent my anger at the things that go unmentioned in today's society such as the above when news readers should be setting an example, they seem to copy each other as in when you hear one using an unusual word, (penultimate springs to mind) it becomes commonplace for a while among the media reports until a new word comes into fashion.
Watch out for these things and let me know your feelings.
Many more observations like this to come. STAY TUNED.
